Violence Against Women In World

Violence against women – is a big threat to the humanity .How to prevent gender based violence – is a most stirring question. From centuries we are trying to search a batter to the violence against women in different countries.

Since several centuries , across the globe , women are enduring horrendous domestic violence. seldom from strangers , while most of the time with their own intimate love partners ! Violence against the delicate gender is a shameful deed , it reveals only the vacuous inner of the masculines. Every country ; from USA to Great Britain or Australia to India, from Mayanmar to  kazakhstan or from Russia to Kenya ; is having dreadful & terrifying  history of violence against women .

The famous South African -American actress Charlize Theron asks ,” For a problem so big and so complicated, where do you begin ? ”  Actually !!!!From where can one begin and where will one end up, if he wants to discuss this most disgusting human rights’ violations by men , repeatedly occurring since multiple decades !

What this blog is about :

I am not trying to write a violence against women essay or violence against women journal . Nor do I am presenting a thorough violence against women statistics. I am only trying to know what is the scenario of the violence with women in different countries ? How can we get out of this disgusting practice ? What are the causes of violence against women ?What is the condition of gender based violence in USA? What are the domestic violence policy of UK ? What are the prevention for violence against women ? In muslim countries and Asian countries like Iran , Afganistan, India, Bangladesh how can one change the stupid psychology of men ? Where to count women as a sub-ordinate is a LAW for women themselves !! If there is any way out of this turmoil ?

I am focusing on female homicide statistics and domestic violence statistics to a small extent here , because without knowing them we can not find out the causes of domestic violence or the prevention from the gender based violence in the world.

Different types of violence against women :

Different types of violence against women are – domestic violence, rapes, female genital parts mutilation, forced marriags, forced sex, rape, homicide, feminicide, honour killings, dowry deaths . List can be still longer and painful for us, but its an universal truth men are frightfully inflicting on women !

I agree; not all the men are same, but each person that is practicing the domestic violence or gender based crime on a woman is at last a man !! Even if [ rarely in some cases ] , women are involved in the violence with other woman , man can save the woman in his house, with whom some other woman is practicing any sort of mental or physical violence  !! After all man is a stronger and robust gender, if he use his strength in decimating the delicate gender, then why should not it be used in saving her ?

What does one mean by Violence Against Women ?

Wikipedia describe VAW  as :

“violence against women is a manifestation of historically unequal power relations between men and women” and that “violence against women is one of the crucial social mechanisms by which women are forced into a subordinate position compared with men.”

And  the United Nations’ definition describes violence against women as

‘any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.’

It  includes –

  • domestic abuse
  • sexual violence and rape
  • stalking and harrassment
  • trafficking of women
  • female genital mutilation
  • intimidation and harassment at work
  • abused in education or in public
  • forced prostitution
  • forced marriage
  • ‘honour’ crimes

At least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime with the abuser usually someone known to her. Isn’t it a vicious, brutal and condemnable act[?] that man tries to subordinate the woman who is doing everything for him in her life ! Bearing his child in her womb, giving birth to him , raising and feeding his kids, taking care of their house, his health, his food and what not !! And then she gets slaps, kicks, smacks and punches from the same man sometimes in house sometimes in public !!! Sometimes inside the room, sometimes in bed !!!! Isn’t it shameful, inhumane and equally repugnant ???

[ In a few paragraphs ahead , I am disclosing some of the data s and statistics pertaining to the VAW issue, which can make the picture clear in front of my readers , but those who are more interested in the texts other than the facts and digits can switch to my next blog ….which is continuing this article……leaving behind the statistics. ]

Muslim Countries as well as Asian countries are dis-reputed and discredited  in case of the Plight Of Women in these countries. So we will see the statistics of these countries later . Lets come across the statistics in the countries like USA, UK, Germany and Australia. Lets find out -which of the country is safe for women ?

Data/ Statistics Around The World

Violence With Women In USA :

More than one in three women in the U.S. regularly fears being sexually assaulted, according to a new report from Gallup.  In 2005, 1,181 women were murdered by an intimate partner. That’s an average of three women every day. Of all the women murdered in the U.S., about one-third were killed by an intimate partner.According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner-related physical assaults and rapes every year.Less than 20 percent of battered women sought medical treatment following an injury.

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, which also includes the crimes that were not reported to the police, 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006. That’s more than 600 women every day in 2006. In 2008, approximately 500 women were raped every day in the U.S. Domestic violence was highlighted as “an extremely under reported crime. When reported, it is rarely prosecuted and where investigated, has a low conviction rate. This is a global truism.

Violence Against Women In Europe :

Data Says , In the UK :

  • Two women are killed by their partner every week in England and Wales. Of all female homicides, 40% are killed by gendered violence.
  • The UK police receive a call every minute about domestc abuse, 89% of which are about a woman being abused by a man.
  • Only 24% cases of domestic violence are actually reported, say Women’s Aid.
  • In 2016 there were 2 million female victims of domestic violence,in UK.
  • 2 women every week are killed by a current or ex-partner and other close relative.
  • Only 15% of serious sexual offences and 21% of partner abuse incidents are reported to the police.
  • More than 100,000 women and girls in the UK are at risk of and living with the consequences of female genital mutilation, forced marriage and so called ‘honour-based’ violence.
  • Girls in schools in the UK are experiencing high levels of sexual violence and harassment, as alarmingly evidenced by Parliament’s Women and Equalities Select Committee.

‘It is now more dangerous to be a woman than to be a soldier in conflict.’
Said Major General Patrick Carnmaert –Former UN Peacekeeping Operation commander.

Rape and sexual abuse have been used as weapons of war throughout history. The lack of stability and security leaves women and girls in particular more vulnerable than ever to violence. But for a long time it was just accepted that this was inevitable where conflict was happening, and few efforts were made to prosecute perpetrators for mass rapes , domestic violence and sexual violence.

Just by having seen the reports of these two prominently well- reputed countries of our globe , we can understand how are the women around the world are subjecting to inhumanity and I must mention here that it is also crossing the national borders ! Nearly 2.5 million cases of sexual violence were reported globally in 2014, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, with many countries reporting more than 100 instances of rape or sexual assault per 100,000 people. Of the 77 countries that reported to the United Nations, Sweden, the U.K., Botswana and Australia had the highest reported rates of sexual violence. The U.S. has especially high rates of rape, specifically.
